EPPING, NH- Dale Brinsfield, more commonly known as "The Man in Black", has been searching for a winning combination all season. Early on in the season Brinsfield was so frustrated he called it quits. But just like any racer he could not stay away from the rush of the sport. Brinsfield regained his composure and has been a consistent qualifier since.

After taking early exits at the last few events Brinsfield came to the 5th annual Amalie Oil Northern American Nationals just looking to go rounds. His reasoning is simple. Going rounds will add points and would move him higher in the standings, which means more money at the end of the year. Sometimes it's easy said than done.

Brinsfield's first qualifying attempt was a 6.736/209.36 placing him out of the field in the # 17 spot. Luck has not been on his side as he looked to step up but was hampered by an oildown and was shut off, forcing him to run later in the field. When he did get to run, the car got out of shape forcing him to shut down early. The third run was a do or die situation for him. Brinsfield took advantage of the good air in Epping and made the field in the #16 spot. This field was the quickest in Pro Mod history.

For the first round Brinsfield had the daunting task of taking on the number one qualifier Troy Critchley. Brinsfield embarrassed the Aussie driver at the tree with a 0.455 reaction time to Critchley's much slower 0.537. But Brinsfield's advantage failed to hold as his Camaro encountered severe tire shake, handing the first round win to the young Aussie. Brinsfield will try to earn more points when the IHRA tour makes its second stop of the season in Rockingham, N.C., on Sept. 21-23 for the CARQUEST Autumn Nationals.
