John Montecalvo and Carl Moyer Headline Latest Batch of Entries For Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-Up
DARLINGTON, SC--- The Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-Up continues to attract some of the nation's premiere full-bodied, race car drivers and the latest batch of entries serves as proof. Pro Stock racer John Montecalvo and veteran Pro Modifed headliner Carl Moyer are the latest to roll into Darllington International Dragway's GM David Johnson's desk. The countdown has began and two weeks remain until the event takes place at the site of the forthcoming IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals.
Montecalvo, who hails from Center Moriches, N.Y., will have Citgo-sponsored, Chevrolet Monte Carlo in attendance with hopes of becoming another one of the growing line of 6.6 second, IHRA legal Pro Stockers. The veteran driver qualified at every IHRA national event last year, but has yet to win a national event. He's hoping to change his fortunes at Darlington.
Moyer has been a staunch supporter of the Pro Modified division since its conception in 1990. The veteran driver from Ankeny, Ohio, will bring his nitrous-injected, large cubic-inch 1957 Chevrolet in hopes of obtaining favorable numbers as he did in 1998. The potential stands for the professional auto dealer to become the first driver in the United States to take a full- bodied 1957 Chevy into the 6.3 second range.
Other well known drivers such as Ed Majacek's ageless Pontiac, Charlie Peppers and his trusty Ford Mustang and classic Pro Modifed drivers such as the 1968 Barracuda of Billy Harper and the 1963 Corvette of Ed Burnley, the Pontiac of Burton Auxier are among the latest pre-entries.
The Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-Up will feature unlimited testing runs on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 17-20. Drivers are given free testing under the stipulation that they compete in an open race on Saturday. There will be a 16 car field for both the Pro Modifieds and Pro Stocks. Qualifying for the race will begin with sessions on Saturday at 10 AM and at Noon. Eliminations are scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM
