MILLION$DRAG - Race Recap Troy Williams Takes Win HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - SUMMIT FastNews - Troy Williams, 26, drove his dragster past Kenny Newberry's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda in the final round Saturday and claimed a $201,000 payday in the third annual B&M Million Dollar Drag Race at Huntsville Dragway. Williams, whose parents, Troy and Jeanette, operate Desoto Dragway in Bradenton, FL, outlasted a field of 202 racers, each of whom had paid a $2,000 entry fee to compete in the one-day event. The $201,000 was the second biggest prize ever paid in drag racing behind the $235,000 earned by George Tamasi Sr. of Downingtown, PA, for winning the 1997 B&M Million. George Tamasi Sr. was ousted early in his bid to become the first repeat winner of the event by his son, George Jr., 27. George Jr. was one of the last five in competition, earning $5,000. Newberry, 40-year-old body shop owner from Silver Creek, GA, earned $50,000 as the runner-up. The winner's share was determined by the 202-car entry, which was down from the 246 who participated in the 1997 event.
