DARLINGTON, SC - Pro Modified racer Mike Castellana was so aggravated with failing to qualify at more than half of the IHRA events that he attended in 1999, that he decided a change in game plan was very much in order. The first step in his plan to become a contender was to develop a better engine combination. Sometimes to be the best, you have to get the best. The Westbury, NY.-based, supermarket chain owner retained the services of defending World Champion Shannon Jenkins for an engine lease program. Phase one of Castellana's plan has so far provided success.

Castellana pushed his radical 1957 Chevy to a runner-up finish in the Pro Modified division at the largest doorslammer oriented test session, the CometitionPlus.com Groundhog Warm-up presented by Majesty Homes, hosted by Darlington International Dragway. He also paced Saturday's testing with an impressive 6.329 elapsed time.

The former IHRA Top Ten rated driver is impressed with the early success.

"I think we're on the right track to establishing ourselves as a contender in the class," explained Castellana. "I'm real pleased with what we achieved this weekend in testing. I think things are going to get even better as the season progresses."

Castellana plans to release his plans soon for a new image to the team that promises to be interesting, to say the least.
