DARLINGTON, SC - Mick Snyder knew he had some rather large shoes to fill when his dad proposed retiring and handing over the driving chores of his championship-winning Pro Outlaw dragster. Without hesitation, the second-generation driver accepted and by the end of the season was the talk of the media for the position he was about to accept. It's understandable if this roller coaster ride is moving a little quick for the former junior dragster pilot. It was just a few years ago that he was a headliner in the division, which is considered to be the little leagues of drag racing.

Snyder makes his official debut this weekend in Darlington, SC at the IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals.

"I know maintaining the performance levels that my dad did when he ran the class is going to be tough," explained Mick. "We've had some good test sessions and I think this is going to be an exciting challenge. I'm not going to worry so much about what my dad did and trying to top that as I am going to try and do the beat that I can do and leave it at that."

Larry Snyder considers himself to be a proud dad and feels that Mick has already risen to the challenge and will fare just well in the family's new Y2K Spitzer dragster, which is powered by an alcohol-burning small block engine.

"The kid is going to do well," explained the elder Snyder, who is the defending Pro Outlaw champion. "I'm really proud of what he's accomplished to this point. I think whatever I did is going to be minor accomplishments compared to him. I think he'll eventually end up being a better driver than I ever was."

The team will make their 2000 season-opening national event debut at the IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals this week, March 9 -11 in Darlington, SC. The event will be televised on TNN.
