Holeshot Sends Stott Packing Early

STANTON, MI. (August 1, 1998) -— Quain Stott tries to look to the optimistic side of everything, but at the CARQUEST Northern Nationals, he was at a loss for words. The Bug Eater sponsored driver fell in the first round, the victim of a holeshot from recent Summer Nationals titlist Gary Shearer.

"There was no excuse for that," explained Stott. "Sometimes I guess you can get too focused that you lose track of what you are focusing on. Not making any excuses...I just got left on and it was too much to make up. Simple as that."

The race was not a total loss as Stott's Inman, South Carolina based entry qualified with a strong 6.520/215.93, good enough for 5th. In his first round, he surrendered a .15 holeshot and that was too much for his 6.665 elapsed time to overcome. Shearer ran a 6.75/209.14.
