DINWIDDIE, VA. - It was a month ago that Lizzard Racing Engines stepped aboard with the sponsorship of live Internet coverage for the CompetitionPlus.com Spring Open. This time the West Babylon, NY.-based engine builder has upped the ante and secured the rights as presenting sponsor for the official IHRA test session to be held at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Va., during the weekend of March 8 - 11. The event now becomes the CompetitionPlus.com Spring Open presented by Lizzard Racing Engines.

Grillo adds that his initial involvement with the event is what has provided the inspiration to take his participation to the next level.

"These guys believe in what they are doing and they are busting their butts to make it the best possible pre-season event," explained Grillo, who is also planning to participate in Pro Modified at the event. "I just want to support this event and make it a successful venture. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff at CompetitionPlus.com. They have helped us with our business tremendously and I think that our support will only help them out. Let's just say that I'm very pleased to be involved with anything they do."

CompetitionPlus.com Publisher Bobby Bennett, who also serves as the Internet magazine's editor, is glad that there are people like Grillo in the racing world.

"Matt is an awesome guy," explained Bennett. "He's believed in our e-zine from the time that he first saw it. He had a vision for us and that was this magazine producing an incredible diehard readership. When we topped 150,000 readers, I realized that Matt believed in what we were doing as much as we did. At the time when major racing publications are falling by the wayside, we need to band together as a sport and support one another. I'm pleased to say that we have new advertisers coming aboard in March and that it will make a difference."

In addition to the presenting sponsorship of the event, Lizzard Racing Engines (www.lizzardracing.com) will also sponsor the live Internet coverage presented by the Fastnews Network, the up-to-date results provider for Summit Racing.com and IHRA.com.

The event promises to bulge at the seams with professional participation. The majority of pre-entries remain in the doorslammer ranks where there are now 34 Pro Modifieds pre-entered and nearly 16 Pro Stocks. There are also a handful of Funny Cars as well as a healthy contingent of Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley committals. While there are no solid committals from Top Fuel entries, several have announced

Vendor spots are also available and for more information, potential attendees can contact Brian Pierce at (804) 862-3174.

Nearly 50 professional Pro Mod, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley-Davidson's have been pre-entered for the CompetitionPlus.com Spring Open.

Virginia Motorsports Park hosts their first IHRA Summit Drag Racing national event, the ACDelco Nationals, presented by Chevrolet, April 20-22, 2001.
