North and South Alliance Hoping For Big Pro Modified Showing

LEICESTER, NY. - The CARQUEST Empire Nationals will be a homecoming of sorts for Pro Modified racer Mike Castellana and his Awesome Motorsports team. For Castellana, who is joined by nitrous guru Shannon Jenkins, this event will mark the first outing with a renewed enthusiasm and for the first time, they will race in Castellana's home state.

The team has always had enthusiasm, but now they intend to take it to the next level. Castellana, a supermarket chain owner from Westbury, N.Y., will be headed into the Leicester-based event with every intention of not only putting his classic 1957 Chevy into the final round, but also in having his final round opponent turn out to be Jenkins and his 1968 Camaro. The way Castellana sees it is that his team deserves it.

"We have had one of those seasons that has been anything but textbook," explained Castellana, who brought on Jenkins as his teammate late last season. "We have always had all the right parts, but it's the little stuff that has always bit us in the rear. I can feel confident in saying that I think we have all of those problems worked out."

At the recently completed Amalie Oil Summer Nationals, both drivers reached the quarterfinals. At one point, Jenkins paced the preliminary rounds of qualifying.

Jenkins knows that the team has plenty of potential to win.

"There's no doubt that we have enough horsepower for the competition," explained Jenkins, a two-time IHRA Pro Modified champion. "We have done extensive amounts of testing and I feel that we are headed in the right direction. I'm just a little reserved in my assessments because as Mike says and I have to agree, it's the little things that have bit us."
