LEICESTER, N.Y. - Ed Hoover fell victim to Paul Bartunek and thus became a first round casualty during the CARQUEST Empire Nationals at New York Raceway Park. The event is the fifth on the IHRA Summit Drag Racing Series. Hoover qualified fourth in the sixteen-car Pro Modified field running consistent 6.40's through the two sessions. The third and final round of qualifying was cancelled Saturday night due to rain.

Hoover faced number thirteen qualifier John Bartunek of Pearl River, N.Y. in round one of eliminations. Bartunek left the starting line first putting Hoover at a .128 second deficit. The Gilbert, S.C.-based driver for Paul Trussell's 1963 Corvette made every effort to outrun Bartunek.

Hoover fell short of the mark, crossing the finish line in 6.442 seconds to Bartunek's 6.554 elapsed time. The margin of victory was 0.016 seconds.

Look for Ed Hoover during the IHRA Northern Nationals at Mid-Michigan Motorplex, Aug. 4-6.
