LAS VEGAS -- The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and National Performance Center are set to turn up the heat in September with the National Performance Import Challenge. National Performance Center is set to give drag racers a chance at $1,000 in a winner-takes-all event Friday, Sept. 8. Competitors can sign up for the event at National Performance Center on 1703 E. Charleston Ave. Drivers must register by 6 p.m. on Sept. 7 to be eligible. The Strip recommends drivers compete prior to the event to ensure their vehicles meet NHRA technical requirements. National Performance Center has been a driving force in drag racing at The Strip all season. It's a presenting sponsor for the E.T. Bracket Series and a major contingency sponsor for the Import and Street divisions. The performance parts store has offered racers in both classes $300 in prize money at each event. "National Performance Center has helped make the inaugural season at The Strip incredible," said Mike Yurick, director of LVMS event operations. "The Import Division has the potential to become one of the largest and most competitive classes at The Strip. Through events like the National Performance Import Challenge, we hope to build interest in this class by introducing drivers to the excitement of drag racing." Gates are scheduled to open at 5 p.m. for the event. Time trials are set for 6-8 p.m. with the first round of eliminations at 8:30. For more information on the National Performance Import Challenge, drivers are encouraged to stop by National Performance Center or contact The Strip at (702) 632-2126.
