Fireworks highlight "Match Race Madness" at The Strip;
Test n' Tune scheduled for Friday
LAS VEGAS - The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will host an open Test n' Tune Friday night.
"Match Race Madness" is scheduled for Saturday night and will feature two Pro Modifieds, two Jet Cars, two AA/Fuel Altereds, non-points bracket racing and a fireworks finale to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Friday night's Test n' Tune is open to all cars and drivers. Gates will open at 6 p.m. Admission is $17 for competitors, $10 for adult spectators, $8 for senior citizens and military personnel and children 12 and under are free.
"Match Race Madness" at The Strip will feature:
* Pro-Modified match races between John Scalpi in a supercharged, alcohol-burning 1957 Chevy and Danny Rowe in a supercharged, alcohol-burning 1938 Chevy coupe racing at speeds in excess of 220 miles per hour.
* The legendary AA/Fuel Altered "Nanook", owned by David Hough, will face off against Mike Sullivan's nitromethane Fiat coupe. AA/Fuel Altereds have a short wheelbase and use nitromethane-burning engines.
* The Rollin' Thunder Jet Funny Car of Brad Janishewski, of Alberta, Canada, will match race the Invader Jet Dragster of Al Eierdam of Arizona. Both run the quarter mile in five seconds, reaching speeds of 300 mph.
Also on the program for June 30 is non-points bracket racing featuring Super Quick, Pro, Sportsman, Motorcycle and Street division competition.
Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, military personnel and high schoolers and children 12 and under are free. Gates open at 4 p.m. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. For more information, log on to lvms.com or call LVMS' ticket office at (800) 644-4444.
