Callahan, Langlois among Marion County WCS winners
LARUE, Ohio -- Middletown's Tom Callahan outran Gary Horton of Walbridge in Top Dragster competition at the IHRA Snap-on Tools World Championship Series at the Marion County International Raceway, June 29. Callahan ran 7.51, 177.79 in his dragster for the win, while Horton shut off early in his dragster. In Top Sportsman, Ken Langlois came out on top in a rematch of Bristol, Tenn.'s Prolong Super Lubricants Spring Nationals. Langolis, of Saline, Mich. topped arch-rival Ernie Carrasco of Flint, Mich. to make a complete reversal of the Bristol outcome. Langlois drove his Chevy Z24 to the win at 7.64, 178.03, while Carrasco covered the quarter-mile in 8.45, 143.32. Second generation racer Michael Lyons of Garden City, Mich. claimed the victory in Modified. Lyons used a superior reaction time to make his 7.86, 159.08 effort better than runnerup Brian Seward's 7.62, 173.51. In Super Stock, T.C. Morris of Boston, Ky. claimed the win over J.G. Wilson Jr. of Mocksville, N.C. Wilson covered the quarter-mile in 18.82, 40.91 in his 1968 Camaro, which wasn't fast enough to handle Morris' 11.27, 116.50 in his '67 Nova. Columbus' David Conkey drove his Camaro to the victory in Stock over Gray, Ky.'s Randall Campbell. Conkey ran 12.00, 104.61 while Campbell ran 13.04, 97.19. Rod category winners included Spartanburg, S.C.'s Kevin Scales (Quick Rod); Zandall Mills of Georgetown, Ky. (Super Rod); and Knoxville's Billy Italio (Hot Rod). Additional race winners during the weekend included Drew Elliott of Bellville (8-9 Jr. Dragster); Sunbury's Tracy Sycks (10-12 Jr. Dragster); Manne Palmentera of North Royalton (13-plus Jr. Dragster); Pemberton/Sturgill Racing of Galloway (No Box ET); and Galloway's Glen Ginn (Box ET). The next IHRA Snap-on Tools World Championship Series event will be at Mid-Michigan Motorplex, July 12-13.
