Johnny Rocca's Prolong Xtreme Machines Ironhorse Performs Above Expectatations At IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals

DARLINGTON, SC-- You just have to love it when a plan comes together. Instead of it being an episode of the once highly touted television show "The A Team", it was Johnny Rocca's national event debut of his new 1949 Mercury and his hired gun, Australian Troy Critchley. The trio performed admirably as the classic and fenderskirted Merc and Critchley qualified 5th at the IHRA Prolong Super Lubricants Winter Nationals in Pro Modified.

Critchley was the early leader in qualifying as a result of being the first Pro Modified in national event competition in Darlington to run in the 6.30s. The former Australian champion hammered out a 6.394/215.48 the early lead in qualifying. The team failed to improve in the next three sessions and fell to the fifth spot where they are scheduled to face Glen May's supercharged, Thunderbird during the rescheduled event on May 8. Rain forced postponement of the event until then.

During the course of the weekend, the team filmed a music video in conjunction with the Prolong Super Lubricant's X-treme Machines CD.

Rocca was well pleased with his team's performance. He explained, "I am proud of my guys, they did well and remained focused during the course of the event. Expect big things from us in the future. You can count on that."

Rocca and Critchley plan to continue their championship conquest at the IHRA Amalie Oil Nationals in Bradenton, Fla., March 26-28. The Native American and Aussie duo, along with each Pro Modified contestant, will be afforded four qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest sixteen entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue.
