ROCKINGHAM, NC - John Montecalvo may not have won the IHRA Holley Spring Nationals at Rockingham, NC., but he was impressive with his latest outing in the Citgo-sponsored, Chevrolet Pro Stocker.

The veteran asphalt paving magnate from Center Moriches, NY., reached the quarter-finals and set a speed world record in the mountain motored division. He lost to a quicker-reacting Steve Spiess, who crashed in the next round.

Montecalvo established the new record in the first round with a 210.77 blast coupled with an astounding 6.605 elapsed time in topping former World Champion Doug Kirk. The elapsed time was also better than the record, but Montecalvo failed to back it up.

"Our program is moving along real well," explained Montecalvo. "We are going to keep working hard at this thing. My team and I made winning the championship one of our foremost objectives."
