DARLINGTON, SC - Nothing makes a statement better than reaching the winner's circle. Thus was the case as John Montecalvo was waving the Chevrolet banner proud as he captured the Pro Stock title at this weekend's CompetitionPlus.Com Groundhog Warm-up presented by Majesty Homes hosted by Darlington International Dragway. He saved his best for last by posting the quickest time of the entire testing session, spanning back to Thursday.

Montecalvo was all smiles as he accepted his second major victory since the 1999 Parts Pro North American Nationals in Epping, NH.

"This gives us a lot of momentum going into the 2000 season," explains Montecalvo. "We had a lot of it after running the 6.59 late last season, but some of the times produced at Houston kind of set us on the back burner as a frontrunner. I feel like this win should put us back ahead of the pack."

For the second year in a row, Montecalvo paced the Pro Stockers at the largest doorslammer oriented professional test session in drag racing. During the final round in the "Chicago Style" eliminations, he posted his quickest with a 6.616/208.28 to stop a determined Dwayne Rice in the final round.

Montecalvo feels that this might be his final test before the IHRA season-opener, the Prolong Winter Nationals, March 9 - 11, also in Darlington.
