Emery Looking For First Qualifying Effort In 1999
ROCKINGHAM, NC-- Two races and two DNQs have not deterred the efforts of Colton’s Point, Md.,-based Top Fuel Harley rider Jamie Emery. His love for the sport is his largest motivational factor to keep returning to battle, time and time again. Emery also uses his love of drag racing to enable others to follow in his footsteps of being a professional racer.
Recently the family attended the Quartermasters Racing Team 7th Annual Banquet held in Clinton, MD., and hosted by the Colony Smith House. Jamie and his family were honored with a plaque from the Quartermasters for their "continued support, friendship, and kindness" during the 1998 season. Johnny Rocca, owner of the PROLONG Pro Mod car known as the Ironhorse was present and was a keynote speaker.
The Quartermasters Racing Team, who are based in Forestville, Md., are a group of businessmen and women who are bound by a love of drag racing and commitment to helping the younger generation become productive members of society. Their goal is to motivate children through the sport of drag racing and they have adopted the concept that "it takes a whole village to raise a child." They are involved in various programs to benefit children of the Washington, DC area such as Career Day, Race Against Drugs (in affiliation with the DEA), taking kids to major events such as NHRA and IHRA national events.
Emery has been involved with the Quartermasters and has enjoyed their support for the last 5 years. He has been active with the Young Marines Program and the local Teen Center in his home county, St. Mary's. His philosophy is that drag racing has always been his greatest passion and has aided him in avoiding the temptations that face our youth everyday. His involvement with the Quartermasters fits right in with his desire to get kids involved in positive activities such as drag racing.
The next event for the G&H Jewelers/Jam-On Productions-sponsored, Emery team will be at this weekend’s IHRA Holley Spring Nationals in Rockingham, N.C. Emery, along with the rest of the Top Fuel contingent, will take assault on the Rockingham Dragway racing surface for the third race of the 1999 IHRA/Snap-On Tools Championship Series. Qualifying will begin with one session on Friday, followed by another two on Saturday. Final eliminations are scheduled for Sunday.
