Irwindale Dragstrip center of testing - tuning, racing & "world battle bike" action: Feb. 20, 22 & 23.

Irwindale, Calif. - - With NASCAR combat on the Irwindale Speedway twin-ring ovals still over a month away, Irwindale's Dragstrip will feature three exciting motorsports events on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday this mid-February weekend --

THURSDAY:
On Thursday the regular NHRA Street Legal Test & Tune Session will be back after a rare rain-out last week. The track is fresh, the VHT will be moist and sticky, and the air will be cool -- The pitch-perfect recipe for low ET's and big MPH numbers on the ultra-quick Irwindale eighth-mile. Great weather for showing off all those cool new racing jackets that were just too hot to wear only few short weeks ago!

Gates open at 4PM and runs start at 5. All street legal cars are welcome, and fans who have never tried drag racing can even get a little race coaching by enrolling in "Drag Racing 101" as taught by none other than John Partridge, the "voice" of the 'Strip.

SATURDAY:
On Saturday, the 22, the first of ten Summit Series ET Bracket Cash Bashes for track championship and team points will explode on the tacky Irwindale launch pad. Gates open at noon for this one, with Time Trials at 2PM, and first elimination rounds starting at 5PM.

As in the track's inaugural season, the Summit Series always brings out the very best drivers and crews. They'll converge on Irwindale from locations all over the western United States. And they'll be here looking to knock the locals off their high horses to take first points -- Of course, Irwindale's regulars will be ready for them and the contest should be fierce. Saturday's the day and the final rounds will be "under the lights". For more Series information call Gene Bergstrom at (626) 358-1100.

SUNDAY:
As they used to say on the Monte Python Show: 'And now, for something completely different --' Get this: The World Battle Bike Federation (that sounds wild already!) presents Southern California's FIRST Freestyle StreetBike Stunt Competition.

This is the blockbuster movie "Biker Boyz" come to life right on the Irwindale Dragstrip. In fact, a number of Sunday's WBBF competitors rode for the cameras in that movie that had its "Fresno Dragstrip" scenes filmed you-know-where.

This is top-class team competition on outrageous souped-up, screaming, street bikes for a $1000 first prize! Wheelies, Stoppies, Burnouts, and an all-out team Freestyle Skills Challenge event that will flat knock your socks off event if you've got 'em glued on, Dude.

Tickets for this one will be at the door ($20 for adults, $10 for kids under 12) with the gates opening at 7AM, competitors' registration ending at 10AM with the crazed competition firing off shortly thereafter. This terrific two wheel team competition is as heated and close as it gets on motorcycles.

Wild weekend on the Irwindale Dragstrip? We're sure looking forward to lots and lots of drag racing and some super freestyle team motorcycle riding!
