LAS VEGAS -- The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the half-mile dirt oval were filled with exciting racing action Saturday night.

At the half-mile dirt oval, Dan Fitzgerald, Bill Hasselle, Sonny Wahl and Bill Vint took victories in the IMCA Grand American Modifieds, IMCA Late Models, Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends and Thunder Stox, respectively.

Winners at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway were Doug Schneider in Pro, John Irving in Street, Jay Waxler in Sportsman and Kathea Woods in Motorcycle.

The 25-lap IMCA Grand American Modified main event was one of the closest races of the year. Rick Durica took the early lead, but just after half way Jim Perkins stole the point.

Perkins, the IMCA national points leader, soon was challenged by Fitzgerald. The two drivers battled side-by-side until five laps to go.

At that point, it was Fitzgerald, Mark Allison, Perkins and Durica nose-to-tail. On the final lap, Fitzgerald pulled away by several car lengths. Allison, Perkins and Durica followed.

"It feels awesome to put the car on the trailer in one piece," Fitzgerald said. "We are going to be celebrating tonight."

In the IMCA Late Model event, Bill Hasselle took the lead on the first lap and was alone in the front until three laps to go. Jim Wulfenstein and Jason Pike joined Hasselle at the front for three-wide wheel-to-wheel racing for the win. On the final circuit, Hasselle put enough space between the other two drivers to secure the victory. However in the second place spot it was a photo finish between Pike and Wulfenstein. Pike won the battle.

"There may not be many (late models) here, but the one that are here race hard," said Hassell. "That was a tough race. I think (Wulfenstein) was getting stronger. It was all we could do to hold him off."

Round three of the SummitRacing E.T. Bracket Series presented by National Performance Center fired up at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as the Pro division points lead was claimed by the third driver this season.

The Pro division point's lead was settled in the final round as Chris Nafzinger and Doug Schneider paired up. Nafzinger pulled to an early lead with a .505 reaction time but broke-out of his 10.91 dial in with an E.T. of 10.908 at 121.50 mph. Schneider completed his pass with an E.T. of 12.097 at 117.01 mph for the win and points lead.

"The last race I won was two-year-ago against Nafzinger," said Schneider. He beat me on the tree, but broke out. My car was really consistent tonight. That was the reason I won."

In Street competition the final round was an Irving showdown as John Irving lined up against his son Robbie Irving. When the tree went green experience paid off as John Irving left the line first with a .563 reaction time on his was to an E.T. of 17.835 at 75.69 mph, taking the win.

Others winner at The Strip were Jay Waxler in Sportsman and Kathea Woods in Motorcycle.

Friday night winners at The Strip were Rob Rivera in Import competition and Jeremiah Kirk in the High School division.
