IMCA: Dirt and drag racing highlight Las Vega weekend

LAS VEGAS - The drag-racing points season kicks off Saturday night at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, while IMCA dirt racing action returns to the speedway's half-mile dirt oval.

The weekend begins with Friday Night Drags at The Strip, which includes High School and Import racers competing in eliminations.

The season-long points battle starts Saturday night when Pro, Sportsman, Street, Motorcycle and Jr. Dragsters hit The Strip. In addition to the NHRA Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by National Performance, fans will witness the exciting Quick 16 event.

Gates are set to open Friday at 5 p.m. with racing from 6 p.m. to midnight. Entry fee at the Friday Night Drags is $15 for car and driver, $10 for competing high school students with a valid student ID, $10 for crew and spectators and $5 for non-competing high school students, military and seniors.

Gates are scheduled to open Saturday at 1:30 p.m. for Jr. Dragsters and 4 p.m. for bracket racers. Qualifying is set to begin at 5 p.m. with eliminations at 7:30. Admission on Saturday evening is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, military and high school students with a valid ID. Children 12 and under are free. The entry fee for competitors is $40.

At the half-mile dirt track, IMCA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends Cars and Thunder Stox will compete.

Spectator gates will open at 6 p.m. Saturday night with heat races starting at 7:30. Admission prices are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and military, $2 for children 6-12 and free for children five and under. The Family Four Pack is $25.
