TOPEKA, Kansas -- Pontiac enthusiasts descended on Heartland Park Topeka for the third annual Pontiacs at the Park on Saturday, June 26. Winners were crowned in five classes as well as the NAPA Quick 16 contest.
Rustin Lafferty (Bel Aire, Kan.) was crowned the winner of the NAPA Quick 16 with an elapsed time of 10.30 seconds. He covered the quarter mile at 124.38 MPH. Runner-up Mark Zafran (Manhattan, Kan.) finished with a time of 14.10 seconds at 61.95 MPH.
Topeka native Deloris Constant ruled the track in the AFX Electronics category with a quick 133.20 MPH. Constant had an E.T. of 10.23 seconds. Kelvin Poe (Wamego, Kan.) was the runner-up of the AFX Electronics with an E.T. of 9.014 seconds at 150.93 MPH.
In the AFX category, Rustin Lafferty (Bel Aire, Kan.) was the winner with an E.T. of 10.26 and a fast 130.12 MPH. Mike Miller earned runner-up with a 119.54 MPH and an E.T. of 10.927 seconds.
Rick Janes (Princeton, Kan.) was the winner in the Super Duty category. He finished with an E.T. of 12.939 seconds and a 105.23 MPH. Janes had a solo pass in the final round after Michael Maddy (Sedgwick, Kan.) broke in the semifinal round and couldn't get the car ready for the final round.
Jonathan Richert (Greeley Colo.) was the winner of the Ram Air event with an E.T. of 15.788 seconds at 89.80 MPH. Robert Umberger (Madison, Wis.) left the line a little early and fouled, but finished with a respectable 16.954 seconds at 79.94 MPH.
Mark Underhill (Auburn, Kan.) was the winner of the Off Breed category with an E.T. 0f 10.922 seconds at 130.94 MPH. Topeka native Michael Garrison was the runner-up after a red light start. Garrison's numbers in the final round were 10.466 seconds at 131.14 MPH.
