GRAND BEND, ONT. - Wally Stroupe knew that he had a tough battle ahead of him when he was paired against the top qualifier in the first round of the IHRA Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend, Ont. He was quicker off of the line, but lifted against Ron Miller in the first round.

"This was a tough and trying weekend for us," explained Stroupe, who is in his first season of Pro Stock. "We exercised everything trick we knew and finally the car responded. The problems returned for the first round, but I guess it's better to lose in the first round than to not be able to run at all."

This was an event that provided Stroupe with some tricky options in qualifying. The Trim Parts Restoration Parts-sponsored driver from Kings Mountain, NC., didn't get into the program until his final attempt when he cranked out a 6.771/204.63, good enough for the 16th spot.

Eliminations opened for Stroupe with a match against fellow Chevrolet campaigner Ron Miller. The former Pro Modified racer did all he could by outreacting Miller, but just past the tree, the car drifted out of the groove and made a beeline for the centerline.

The next stop on the IHRA tour will take place at the IHRA Amalie Motor Oils Summer Nationals, June 15-17 at Cordova, IL.
