GRAND BEND, ONT. - Defending IHRA Pro Mod Champion and his Dodge Bodied Pro Mod went out sooner than Jenkins would have liked. Jenkins, running a 2000 Viper at the inaugural IHRA Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend, ONT., would have loved to have taken a Mopar product to the finals for all the Canadian Mopar fans. Dealing with a relatively new car and a tricky track put the World Champ behind the eight ball. It didn't help when he hurt his best motor during a final qualifying run that was eventually disqualified when the two-time champion made a mistake of by-passing the scales.

The inaugural Canadian event gave Jenkins and his partner Billy Harper a chance to strut their Mopar Magic for all the Chrysler fans in the Great White North, but after qualifying, Jenkins was the only Mopar left to carry the colors of the event sponsor.

Jenkins actually made the field on his final attempt a 6.486/208.62 run but he accidentally by-passed the scales by accident. That reverted back to his 6.55 lap as his best. Jenkins made the field in the #16 spot and had the challenge of facing Fred Hahn in the first round.

Jenkins and the Hahn were making a race of it till both drifted toward the centerline, where Jenkins lifted to save the car. Hahn took the win, but Jenkins had the mind-set to save the car.

Jenkins will avenge this close loss as the IHRA returns to Cordova, IL, June 17th and 18th for the Amalie Oils Summer Nationals. More information on the Shannon Jenkins/Billy Harper Team can be found on the Internet's largest drag racing e-zine at www.competitionplus.com.
