EPPING, NH. - Ed Hoover wanted to win Epping so bad that he could taste it. However, a win was just not on the menu today for the Gilbert, S.C.-based veteran, as he dropped a tough match against Quain Stott.

Hoover has primarily enjoyed good memories from Epping. It was here in 1992 that he became the first Pro Modified racer into the 6.50s and outrun Scotty Cannon in the final round. The positive memories continued early in qualifying as he pushed Paul Trussell's 1963 Corvette to a 6.345, 223.10. His luck wasn't the same in the next attempt, as sixty-feet out the car rattled the tires and he lifted. He stands as the tenth quickest.

With most of the cars in the class picking up the pace, Hoover sharpened his focus on achieving the same feat during the final day of qualifying. His first run produced a combination of tireshake and pedaling and netted a 7.868. The final session provided no reprieve. He rested on his laurels of the first day and that placed him in the 11th spot.

In the first round, Hoover beat Stott off of the line, but at the finish, he couldn't fend him off with his 6.359, 221.85.
