John Long To Be Absent From CARQUEST Empire Nationals, Company Demands Take Precedence
INDIANAPOLIS, IN.--- The IHRA CARQUEST Empire Nationals will be missing a key element in this weekend's competition at Leicester, NY. The Spectra One Motorsports Printing-sponsored, Super Eliminator competitor John Long, fresh off his victory at the Amalie Oil Summer Nationals in Cordova, IL, will be noticeably absent from IHRA competition this weekend. Long, the only competitor to take a national event victory in the Super Eliminator division this season besides Larry Snyder, will be in Chicago to accept a prestigious award this weekend.
Long, accompanied by his wife Doreen, will be attending the 1999 Allegra Print & Imaging Annual Convention at the Chicago Hilton, where he will accept the President's Award. Long's Spectra One Motorsports Printing business has been chosen as the only one in 500 franchisees to receive this prestigious award.
"We are very honored to have been chosen as this years' recipient, but unfortunately it has created a scheduling conflict with the Empire Nationals," Long explained. “With his recent win at Cordova, Long has jumped into sixth place in the points race. And round by round, this weekend's Super Eliminator performers could greatly affect the standings. With Larry Snyder in the lead, Long was hoping for a weekend which could bump him into third place. "This just made our decision that much harder." Long will be following the race via the internet with hopes that, in his absence, someone can stop Larry Snyder and Dave Price.
Long enjoyed a joyous victory at the Amalie Oil Summer Nationals in Cordova, IL. Just behind Snyder in the qualifying rounds, Long held on to the number 2 spot into competition. Lady luck courted Long all the way to his victorious 6.374/215.62 run against a tire shaking Terry Munroe, for his first ever Super Eliminator victory.
Long and his Spectra One Motorsports Printing Team plans to resume their championship conquest at the IHRA CARQUEST Northern Nationals in Stanton, MI., July 31 - August 2. Long, along with each Super Eliminator contestant, will be afforded four qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest sixteen entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of Drag Review.
