Emery Falls Short In Qualifying At IHRA CARQUEST Empire Nationals

LEICESTER, NY.-- The road of the Screamin' Eagle Top Fuel Harley presented by Crane division has been nothing short of a rocky road for Colton's Point, Md., rider Jamie Emery. The former Prolong Winter Nationals runner-up failed to qualify for the IHRA CARQUEST Empire Nationals in Leicester, NY. But, it wasn't a shortcoming without a fight.

Emery opened qualifying with a conservative baseline pass that netted a 7.313/203.12, good enough to secure the eighth spot.

Emery stepped up during the second session and secured a spot in the field following the second session. He held onto the eighth spot with a 7.127/191.84 going into the final session. He did exactly as he needed and stepped up during the Nite Of Fire session with a 7.040/193.18. However, he was bumped out in the last pair of Harleys to run during the final session.

In the 1998 season, Emery finished in the seventh position among Top Fuel Harley points earners.

The next event scheduled for the G&H Jewelers/Jam-On Productions/Castrol Heavy Duty Lube-sponsored, Emery team will be at the IHRA CARQUEST Northern Nationals in Stanton, MI., on July 31 - August 2. Emery, along with the rest of the Top Fuel Harley contingent, will take assault on the Mid-Michigan Motorplex racing surface for the second race of the 1999 IHRA/Snap-On Tools Championship Series. Qualifying will begin with one session on Friday, followed by another two on Saturday. Final eliminations are slated to begin at noon on Sunday.
