Pro Modified Driver Ed Hoover Makes Spectacular First Round Start, Drops Tough Decision To Tim McAmis

LEICESTER, NY-- The Trussell Brothers' sponsored, '63 Split Window Corvette put on a great starting line show for the fans of the CARQUEST Empire Nationals in Leicester, NY., today. And once again, proves that just because one makes it into the field, there are no guarantees going down the track.

"It's just not our day," explained Hoover, winner of the first-ever Pro Modified race. "But this goes to show you, it's anyone's game once you're in the field,"

Hoover made his first qualifying attempt a keeper. He used a 6.509/216.27 to secure a spot in the field after the first session. Ed was the eighth quickest on Friday as rains washed out the second Friday session.

Hoover continued his trend to move into the top half of the program. He was impressive in his second qualifying attempt with a 6.431/218.90, good enough for the seventh spot going into the night session. When he saw that the track could handle even more horsepower, Hoover stepped up with an impressive 6.405/219.40. His efforts paired him opposite Tim McAmis in the first round of competition.

When the lights came down, Hoover lifted the nose of the Corvette into the air. When he brought the wheels down, he wisely lifted. Unfortunately, he couldn't save the first round for the win, watching McAmis turn on the win bulb.

Hoover and Trussell Motorsports plan to continue their championship conquest at the IHRA CARQUEST Northern Nationals in Stanton, MI., July 31 - August 2. Hoover, along with each Pro Modified contestant, will be afforded four qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest sixteen entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2, with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of Drag Review.
