Local Favorite Aims Positive For The Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-Up!
DARLINGTON, SC-- Ed Hoover only lives a hop, skip and a jump away from Darlington, S.C. and his familiarity with the drag racing facility show. The Gilbert, S.C., native has won two of the more historic doorslammer races to ever be contested at Darlington International Dragway. Next week, he plans to add yet another trophy to his mantle at the third annual, Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-Up.
Hoover made history in 1989 when he became the first winner on the Summit Top Sportsman Quick Eight Series during the Winter Nationals, which was essentially a precursor to Pro Modified. The new professional category was created in 1990 and he made history by winning that event as well. While he's honored to be a part of history, the professional drag racer downplays any significance.
"I have just been fortunate to be in the right place at the right time," explains Hoover, who drives the Trussell Motorsports 1963 Corvette. "Drag racing is a sport where luck plays as large a part as skill does. I don't race for second place and I believe that is what has helped us to remain competitive over the years."
The last time Hoover ran Darlington, he reached the final round of the IHRA Southern Nationals last May. He hopes to win everytime that he comes to Darlington and in a recent magazine article the multi-time national event winner has made statements that he's prepared to use up his parts to win the world championship. It's clear that the man is on a mission. His first tour of duty comes at The Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-Up.
The Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-Up will feature unlimited testing runs on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 17-20. Pro Modifed, Pro Stock and Top Fuel Harley racers are given free testing under the stipulation that they compete in an open race on Saturday. There will be a 16 car field for both the Pro Modifieds and Pro Stocks. Any other cars that wish to test are welcomed to do so at a $200 per day fee. Qualifying for the race will begin with sessions on Saturday at 10 AM and at Noon. Eliminations are scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM
