Vancil - Setting records in Norwalk Ohio!

06/14/04 SANTA FE SPRINGS The Roeder Harley-Davidson Buckeye Nationals presented by Drag Specialties was held amidst stormy skies and several delays, but the event pressed on despite the weather. Doug Vancil and the Vance & Hines / Drag Specialties team spent the last several weeks fine tuning the bike and were eager for the chance to put it to the test so not even weather conditions could hold the team back.

Saturday's qualifying proved that hard work does pay off. Doug ran one of the fastest passes in AHDRA history with his 6.290 et / 221.74 pass and he set a new 1/8th mile record of 4.097 to reset the previous record of 4.159 set in 2003 by Steve Stordeur. "We're finally finding the right tune to make this bike move out it's becoming a missle!"

Eliminations seemed to be as successful as qualifying and Doug moved through the competition to his second record of the weekend which occurred during his race against Tii Tharpe who could not match Doug's 6.406 et / 212.36 run and new 1/8th mile record of 4.094. Moving on, Doug faced Johnny Mancuso, although Doug produced a respectable 6.440 et / 209.30 run, vs. Manucuso's 6.510 et / 203.83 run, Doug's front wheel crossed the finish line in the air, giving Mancuso the advantage and the win. "It was a hard fought race with Johnny. I'm sure we'll get another chance. The Vance & Hines / Drag Specialties bike is starting to turn around and I think we'll be much more competitive very soon." stated Doug.

The next event for the Vance & Hines / Drag Specialties Team is the Kresto Pacific Nationals presented by Eastside Harley-Davidson, June 26-27 in Seattle, WA. Stay tuned to see what happens next.
