Spectacular finish concludes the Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-Up. Pro Mod Final Concludes With Two-Car Crash!
DARLINGTON, SC-- The Majesty Homes Groundhog Warm-Up ended in spectacular fashion. During the final round of the Pro Modified division, finalists Dale Brinsfield and Ronnie Hood became entangled in a two-car crash that effectively destroyed both cars. Hood was declared the winner as Brinsfield was disqualified for crossing centerline first. Both drivers emerged unscathed.
The Pro Stock division saw the high-profile IHRA Ford team of Stu Evans Motorsports make a clean sweep of the preseason test races when driver Chris Holbrook outreacted John Montecalvo and was able to fend him off with a slower elapsed time. Holbrook won with a 6.719/207.27 to Montecalvo’s quicker 6.711/207.56 in the Citgo-sponsored, Chevrolet.
The special 500-inch, Pro Stock division was captured by former NHRA World Champion Jim Yates as he topped Mike Thomas in the finals. Yates had earlier ran a 6.88 for lane choice, but didn’t have to labor hard as Thomas broke in the finals.
Top Fuel Harley-Davidson was also decided on a single run as newly inducted IHRA/ Screamin’ Eagle contestant Steve Moore soloed in the final round when finalist Jamie Emery broke a transmission in the round prior. Moore was the quickest bike of the weekend with a 7.015/182.44.
This was the final preseason race before IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals, which is scheduled to take place March 12-14 at Darlington International Dragway. The three day event will feature qualifying on Friday and Saturday. Eliminations for the 27th annual event will begin at Noon on March 14.
