DARLINGTON, SC - John Mancuso ran a 6.47 in testing last season and many discounted his efforts. He answered his critics by duplicating the feat and officially becoming the quickest Nitro Harley racer in competition during the IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals in Darlington, SC. The Houston, Tx.-based, Harley-Davidson dealer was on a proverbial mission as he blasted out a 6.476/214.08 to secure the bragging rights officially.

Mancuso was excited about the good fortunes.

"The Darlington and Houston Raceway Park racing surfaces, where we ran our first 6.47, are very comparable to one another in feel," explained Mancuso. "The bike launched hard and I knew I was on a pass. I just held on and it was a heck of a ride."

Mancuso appeared to be on a good race in the first round, but drifted out of the groove in his first round match against Dale Nungesser and aborted the run.

All was not lost for Mancuso camp as second rider Steve Stordeur qualified fifth and rode to victory over Jay Turner in the final round.
