LAMPUS MAKES FIRST APPEARANCE AT DARLINGTON

DARLINGTON, SC -- Top Fuel driver Don Lampus makes his first Darlington appearance at the season opening IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals at Darlington International Dragway March 12-14.

Last year's rookie sensation finished fifth in IHRA Top Fuel points, and Lampus has made clear his intentions for this season, planning a full out assault for the Top Fuel championship.

"We made several changes to the car during the winter, and established a pretty good baseline when we ran the dragster several weeks ago," said Lampus. "Every time we make a run down the track we learn something new, something we can take and improve upon. Every bit of knowledge helps because this year it's going to be a battle, everyone looking to gain that performance edge. It's gonna be a dog-fight, and we'll be right in the middle of it."

Lampus set a career best of 4.711 seconds elapsed time at 309.56 miles-per-hour during qualifying at Pomona in February. "I'm pleased with the car's performance, it was a great way to begin the season and gives us a good tune-up to take into the IHRA season opener," commented Lampus.

The team made a mid-season debut at Cordova last year, missing the first two races as they finished preparing the McKinney built dragster. "I've never raced at Darlington so this will be a new track for me. I'm looking forward to a very competitive race. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we'll have great side-by-side racing all weekend," Lampus said.

IHRA and Darlington International Dragway have instituted "family-friendly" ticket pricing, with adult tickets $20 per day that includes general admission seating, free parking and free pit pass.

"If you've never seen Top Fuel cars race before, you've got to get out to Darlington this weekend," said Lampus. "They "rotate the earth" on a good run, and you have to experience that first hand. There's nothing like the sound of a fueler running at night, with the flames dancing out the headers and the smell of nitro in the air. I promise it will be something you'll never forget, and you'll keep coming back for more!"

Darlington International Dragway is located six miles west of Darlington, SC on Hwy. 151. For ticket, camping and track information call (843) 332-0123.
