Brinsfield Looking For Better Memories At CompetitionPlus.Com Groundhog Warm-up presented by Majesty Homes

DARLINGTON, SC - The memories that Pro Modified racer Dale Brinsfield has of the CompetitionPlus.Com Groundhog Warm-up presented by Majesty Homes at Darlington Dragway are not his greatest. It's easy to understand why. In just six seconds, his 1999 championship hopes took a serious blow and his Dylan Mortgage-sponsored, 1963 Corvette got crossed up and went into opponent Ronnie Hood's lane causing a nasty two-car crash during the Pro Modified finals. His machine was totally destroyed.

A mad thrash ensued in the weeks following and the current Pro Modified speed record holder rolled through the gates at Darlington in less than a month with a new Tommy Mauney-built 1968 Camaro. However, fate was not any kinder at the Prolong Winter Nationals and he failed to make a full pass down the track. Brinsfield suffered a tremendous intake explosion, which effectively took the wind out of the team's sails.

Brinsfield hopes that his rough times at Darlington are behind him.

"I don't think anyone ever really hopes for rough times at the race track," confided Brinsfield. "Last year is exactly that. It is last year. When I roll to the line for that first test run on Friday, it starts the first day in my new outlook on Darlington."

He continues, "We were doing well before the mishap and eventually we got back into our groove by mid-season. Pro Modified is going to be tough this year and this event in Darlington is going to give everyone a glimpse of things to come."

Brinsfield is exactly correct with his assessment of Pro Modified as the CompetitionPlus.Com Groundhog Warm-up presented by Majesty Homes should attract as many as 25 Pro Modified teams.

There will be five professional divisions contested at the CompetitionPlus.Com Groundhog Warm-Up presented by Majesty Homes. The classes contested will be Pro Modified, Pro Stock, 500-inch Pro Stock and Nitro Harley. The defending champions are Ronnie Hood (Pro Modified), Chris Holbrook (Pro Stock), Jim Yates (500-inch Pro Stock) and Steve Moore (Nitro Harley). The Pro Stock Trucks are welcome to test as well.

The format is simple for this event. Darlington Dragway will provide free testing for any racer that competes in the aforementioned divisions on February 18 - 20, provided that they adhere to the following conditions. The racer must participate in a "Chicago Style" format on Saturday in which there will be three set sessions for runs. The first two attempts will determine the final round contestants, as the two quickest runs will qualify for the final round to determine the winner. The final round will be run during the third session. To qualify for the free testing, the racer must participate in all three days of the event.

Gates will open for the Saturday show beginning at 10 am with the first blast off at 11 and admission only $10.
