CARRIER BOYZ RACING: CORY MCCLENATHAN TAKES ANOTHER SHOT AT IHRA
NORWALK, Ohio (August 16, 2005) -- Once again Cory McClenathan, driver of the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM AirHog Top Fuel dragster will compete at the IHRA Hooters Drag Racing Series Skull Gear World Nationals presented by PPG at Norwalk Raceway Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
Actually, this is the first time that McClenathan will compete in an IHRA sanctioned event, as last year, even though he was at the event, everything was rained out on the scheduled dates and reschedule later. McClenathan and Carrier Boyz Racing were unable to return due to its NHRA racing commitments.
"I'm excited about running the Skull Gear World Nationals," said McClenathan. "Skull Gear and Torco Race Fuels are two of our associate sponsors and it's always good to run in a race sponsored by one of your marketing partners. Even though we were here last year, you can really call this my first IHRA and once again this year I'm looking forward to meeting all the fans and racing at Bill Bader's facility. After being here last year, I already know it stacks up with the best of tracks.
"I know my team owners, Andy and Mark Carrier, are looking forward to returning to Norwalk. They ran there in 2003 but are no strangers to IHRA. Their father, Larry Carrier, founded IHRA back in the early 70's and he and track owner Bill Bader are pioneers of that sanctioning body. There is a lot of history between the Carrier family and the Bader family and this year will be especially tough without Larry Carrier who passed away in June."
Mark Carrier reflected on the past and the death of his and Andy's father: "Norwalk Raceway Park is probably my favorite track of all. It's always great to see Bill (Bader), Andy and I don't get to see him hardly enough. I know it will be especially tough this year as a result of dad's death a couple months ago. Bill was always a strong supporter of our dad and has been both a business acquaintance and family friend for a long time. We are glad for the opportunity to support him again this year," said Mark.
Andy Carrier echoed Cory Mac's feelings. "Mark and I ran Norwalk two years ago for the first time as professional Top Fuel team owners and it will always be one of those memories that Mark and I will never forget," said Andy Carrier. "This whole team is elated that we had the opportunity to return this year but as both Cory and Mark have said it won't be the same without dad.
"This is our first year with FRAM, a unit of the Honeywell Consumer Products Group, and we're dedicated to putting this FRAM AirHog dragster in the winner's circle. No matter the race, Cory is all about winning and so is this entire Carrier Boyz Racing team. We've had a good season thus far in 2005 but we would like to make it great, starting right here in Norwalk."
McClenathan brings with him to the IHRA Skull Gear World Nationals strong statistics; all earned on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
