Ironhorse Drops Tough First Round Encounter

CORDOVA, ILL. (July 5, 1998) It may have ended with a first round loss, but Johnny Rooca was plenty well pleased with his fortunes at the IHRA Summer Nationals. The Leesburg, Virginia based driver qualified for his first ever IHRA sanctioned event with his 1949 Mercury. However, his first round match with Texan Landon Jordan did not bear positive fruits.

"We reached one objective this weekend," explained Rocca. "We wanted to make it into the program and then work from there. Now that we have the DNQ monkey off of our backs, we can concentrate on winning some races."

Rocca started eliminations from the tenth qualified position and faced the seventh quickest entry of Landon's. Landon was the quicker driver off of the line and the finish line posting a 6.64/208.07 to 6.78/205.69.

The next event on the IHRA/Snap-On Tools Series for Rocca will be the IHRA Empire Nationals next weekend.
