Johnny Rocca's Ironhorse To Whet The Appetite Of Quad-Cities Area With Pre-Race Promotions
CORDOVA, ILL.-- The International Hot Rod Association, in a never-ending quest to further beef up their steady-growing attendance figures, will employ the popular, Prolong-sponsored, Ironhorse 1949 Mercury Pro Modified as a promotional tool. Their objective is to lure potential spectators into what is being hailed as one of the greatest bargains in the drag racing market for the upcoming Amalie Oil Summer Nationals in Cordova, Ill. Rocca was very much happy to oblige the IHRA officials.
"We all have to pull our weight to bring the people in the stands," explained Rocca. "We want to show the people of this area that the IHRA racers are first class in every way. Plus, I want to introduce them to the greatest sport in the world. One look at the IHRA program and we will make believers out of everyone."
The flamed and fender-skirted entry will be on display at the Hooters Restaurant in nearby Davenport, IA., this evening between the hours of 5:00 to 7:00. Rocca and his Australian-born driver Troy Critchley will be on hand to answer questions and sign autographs for the race fans in attendance. The team will also distribute Prolong Super Lubricants souvenirs.
On Thursday, Critchley will perform a burnout on a blocked-off street near the Radisson Hotel in Davenport to kick off the annual IHRA press conference for the Amalie Summer Nationals at 3:30 pm. According to Rocca, this will mark the first time in IHRA history that any race vehicle has performed such an act as a precursor to an upcoming event.
Rocca and Critchley will compete in the IHRA Amalie Summer Nationals in Cordova, Ill., this weekend. The Native American and Aussie duo, along with each Pro Modified contestant, will be afforded two qualifying attempts on Friday and another two on Saturday with final eliminations slated for Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue.
