Chicago - Clay Millican of Team Werner/Lehman Racing, the 2001 and 2002 IHRA Top Fuel Champion, and IHRA's all-time winningest Top Fuel driver, will attempt to avenge his only loss of the 2002 season at the IHRA President's Cup Nationals at the Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, Md., on September 26-28.

The President's Cup Nationals is the eleventh stop on the 12-race IHRA circuit. Millican entered last year's race undefeated for the season, but despite setting the Maryland International Raceway's track record for elapsed time and speed in qualifications, lost to Jack Ostrander in the final round. This loss ended Team Werner/Lehman Racing's quest for a perfect season of 12 wins.

"This is the track that got the best of us last year," said Millican. "This year we are going there wide-open, trying to avenge our one loss from last year, which cost us the perfect season. We are going to try to win the race and get closer to our third championship!"

Millican is the current Top Fuel points leader, and is 225 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Bruce Litton. He has won seven of the nine IHRA events in which he has competed this year. The only driver that has beaten him is Litton. The two have met in five finals thus far in 2003.

In his last race, the North American Nationals in Epping, N.H., Millican was the number one qualifier and broke his own New England Dragway track record with an elapsed time of 4.604 seconds. He defeated Litton in the final round with a time of 4.752 to Litton's 5.073. This marked Millican's 27th career Top Fuel victory.

Earlier this season, Millican became the winningest Top Fuel driver in IHRA history, clinching his 26th career victory at the Northern Nationals in just three and a half seasons and surpassing the 24-year-old record set by "Big Daddy" Don Garlits in 1979. Millican will look for his 28th career victory in Budds Creek.
