Millican and Team Werner Clinch 4th Consecutive IHRA Top Fuel Championship

Norwalk, Ohio - October 9, 2004 Clay Millican of Team Werner/Lehman Racing clinched his unprecedented fourth consecutive Top Fuel Championship by competing at the IHRA World Nationals at Norwalk Raceway Park.

"Winning four straight championships with this Werner team is the best feeling," said Millican. "I am so proud of everything this team has accomplished in such a short amount of time. It is just unbelievable."

Along with four straight championships, Millican is also the winningest professional driver in IHRA history, with 36 career victories in just five season.

Millican, the number one qualifier with an elapsed time of 4.656 at 310.84 mph, faced number eight qualifier John Sipple in the first round of Saturday's eliminations. Millican edged out Sipple at the finish line with an E.T. of 4.917 at 283.37 mph to Sipple's 4.988 at 253.33 mph.

In the second round, Millican faced Bobby Lagana, Jr., and made a great pass down the quarter mile track, while Lagana had traction problems. Millican finished the race in 4.671 seconds to Lagana's 6.612.

Millican met Doug Foley in the finals. Both drivers lost traction, and Foley spoiled Millican's bid for a 37th career victory, finishing with an E.T. of 6.722 to Millican's 9.535.

Millican and Team Werner will go for their seventh IHRA win of the season at their final race of 2004, the World Finals in Rockingham, N.C., on October 22- 24.
