Millican/Team Werner Win 6th IHRA Event of the Season at Northern Nationals Millican Sets Track E.T. and Speed Records
Martin, Mich. - Clay Millican of Team Werner/Lehman Racing won his sixth race of the season at the IHRA Northern Nationals at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park, widening his lead over Bruce Litton in the Top Fuel points standings.
Millican, the 2001, 2002, and 2003 Top Fuel champion and winningest professional driver in IHRA history, qualified in the number one position with a track record elapsed time of 4.685 seconds at 307.30 mph. In the first round of eliminations he faced number eight qualifier Rick Cooper. Cooper had trouble and crossed the center line, while Millican made a clean pass with an e.t. of 4.735 at 298.80 mph.

Millican edged Allison off the line with a reaction time of 0.061 seconds to Allison's 0.084, then finished with an e.t. of 4.688 at 308.57 mph. Allison made the pass in 4.797 seconds at 299.86 mph.
In the finals, Millican met Bobby Lagana, Jr., who worked on Millican's crew in a few of the team's NHRA races in 2003. Lagana blew up his clutch at the start of the race, while Millican made his second record-setting pass of the weekend, setting the track record for speed with a pass at 311.27 mph and an e.t. of 4.720. This marked Millican's 36th career victory and his sixth of the 2004 season.
"This was a big day for us," said Millican. "After not getting past the first round in the last two races, it is just great to get another win. This Werner team is unbelievable."
Millican's next race will be in his hometown of Memphis on August 20-22 at the NHRA O'Reilly Mid- South Nationals. He will return to IHRA competition at the World Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, on August 25-28.
