Castellana Plans Formidable Combination For 1999 Pro Modified Points Chase

WESTBURY, NY -- A year after his finest IHRA/Snap-On Tools Championship Drag Racing Series showing, Pro Modified racer Mike Castellana is poised to improve his status greatly. He appears to be headed down the right path with a new race car and an even more aggressive racing attitude.

The 34-year old, supermarket chain owner from Westbury, N.Y., recently announced plans to run a new 1957 Chevy fabricated by former Pro Modified World Champion Tim McAmis. The car is fabricated from the same mold as the final Robbie Vandergriff shoebox albeit a little toned down in terms of aerodynamics. McAmis was forced to raise both the front end and the roofline when the IHRA technical department balked at its low stature. This swoopy new ride will feature a McAmis version of the popular swing-arm chassis.

The source of motivation will come from an NOS nitrous oxide-injected, 704 cubic-inch powerplant from longtime engine builder R&S Competition. The team will begin testing as early as January of 1999.

Primary backing will come from Western Beef Super Markets with associate backing from Vista Food Exchange.
