Carl Spiering Grand Bend report

Spiering qualifies ...

Spiering qualifies #3 and takes home Best Engineered Pro Car at 2002 IHRA debut

Grand Bend Ontario - Canada's fiercest Pro Modified competitor Carl "The Big Dog" Spiering made his entry into the IHRA scene this season with a bang. The 3rd Annual Canadian Mopar Nationals was the next stop on Spiering's Ultimate Power Trip, a tour that will take him across Canada and to three stops with IHRA.

Spiering drove the Dave Persico owned '57 Chevy backed by Cutler-Hammer Canada and Pace American to a personal best in qualifying at 6.30 seconds and over 225 miles per hour. The elapsed time actually put Spiering in the #1 position for a while until all the sessions were over where he ended up in third. This was a great achievement for the team as this was their first event of the season competing against Pro Mods of such great caliber.

"IHRA is the place to be if you want to be amongst the best in the world. We are pleased to put the car so close to the top of the ladder. We are running a new power plant that gave us some fantastic results here a couple of weeks ago." Stated Spiering.

Cheering Spiering on were a large number of folks from Cutler-Hammer entertaining their clients, and representatives from Pace American. Also in attendance was Spiering's legion of fans that have watched and supported his efforts over the past couple of years.

"The fans at Grand Bend are second to none. Especially these Canadians, they are loyal and die-hards. We are always happy to see them when we are here and we certainly appreciate their enthusiasm towards us." Informed Spiering.

First round of qualifying found Spiering facing fellow Canadian Mark Nielson. Spiering had a starting line advantage with a great reaction time but was slowed down by mechanical problems causing him the win. All was not lost though as the team had received an outstanding award given at each event to one particular car in the professional ranks that of "Best Engineered".

"Best Engineered" is a testament to the craftsmanship and technology that goes into preparing one of these machines as they push mechanical limitations. It is perceived as and honor and accomplishment to receive the award.

"We are certainly disappointed that we were unable to go further in eliminations but are very proud of Best Engineered. We will be back in the area in August at Toronto Motorsports Park and we are looking to go rounds there." Replied Spiering.
