Scotty Cannon Claims Australian National Drag Racing Association International Championship!

BRISBANE, AUS— Nothing rebuilds one’s confidence more than winning. That’s exactly what has happened to Lyman, South Carolina’s Scotty Cannon. The 5-time IHRA Pro Modified world champion will return to the United States this week after capturing the ANDRA Top Doorslammer International Championship by edging out Australian standout Victor Bray. It was exactly the boost that he was seeking going into the 1998 season. “We are anxious to get our IHRA combination in the car and get to cracking,” explained Cannon. “I think racing in Australia helped us to get back into the groove of racing a supercharged car.” Cannon’s Australian-campaigned 1953 Studebaker is being shipped to the United States, where it will be run during the 1998 IHRA season. In four final rounds, he has won two meetings and finished runner-up in the remaining events. The Murray Anderson creation has went a 6.30 best at 226 miles per hour.
