Bruce Litton Announces Second Top Fuel Team To Compete On IHRA/Summit Series; Debut Slated For Amalie Oil Summer Nationals
ROCKINGHAM, NC - Bruce Litton has put an exclamation point on his IHRA Top Fuel program. The soft-spoken enclosed trailer dealer from Indianapolis, Ind., announced intentions of fielding a second car at a press conference at the Holley Spring Nationals presented by Castrol GTX in Rockingham, NC.
Litton will field a second car driven by recent junior dragster national event champion J.R. Todd, who becomes the first African-American to field a Top Fuel dragster in competition since Maurice Dupont in the early-Nineties. Todd, 18, is currently a senior at Lawrenceburg High School in Indiana where he maintains a 3.0 grade point average.
Litton is excited about the second team, which will be exclusively sponsored by his Bruce Litton Trailer Sales dealership. The recent IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals finalist is excited about his new venture and the opportunities for everyone involved.
"I think he'll be a great asset for the IHRA as well as the Top Fuel division," explained Litton. "I feel that he will be a good driver and I will be the one teaching him. He's a smart kid and a quick learner. He's a very talented kid and I'm sure he will excel in this venture."
Litton will begin licensing procedures as early as June, hoping to instruct J.R on the day following a national event. Current plans are to begin instruction at the Mopar Performance Parts Canadian Nationals at Grand Bend, ONT. Pending his development, Todd is expected to make his national event debut at the Amalie Oil Summer Nationals in Cordova, Ill.
Todd feels that he's living a dream in gaining this opportunity.
"This is a dream come true," Todd explained. "I'm nervous about doing this. I have no doubt that Bruce has the ability to teach me the ropes and show me the right things to do. He's a great driver and I feel I can benefit from his knowledge."
