AMA/PROSTAR STREETBIKE SHOOTOUT GIVES STREET RACERS A CHANCE TO GET OFF THE STREETS

CHICAGO, Illinois - The first stop of the now world-famous 1998 AMA/Prostar Streetbike Shootout series kicks off at the new Route 66 Dragway, in Joliett, on July 10-12.

Growing from a one per year event held at Indianapolis, the Streetbike series is now held during the AMA/Prostar national events at Chicago, Indianapolis and finishing at Columbus, Ohio.

The prestigious series has three categories of competition, including stock, modified and unlimited. Bikes in competition include stock Ninjas and GSXRs, to near-seven second turbocharged and nitrous-injected chain-driven rockets.

The rules are simple; all bikes must be street legal including a current license plate and registration. They must have functioning head and tail lights, a charging system, and must have dot-approved street tires. To prove their streetability, they are run on a twenty five mile road course prior to qualifying, and are their tires and engines are sealed to insure that no changes are made between rounds.

1997 winners include Eric Allen in Stock, James Lauer in Modified, and Keith Dennis in Unlimited. All are scheduled to return in defense of their titles.

The road course will be held on Friday afternoon at 5:30 p.m., qualifying begins on Saturday at 9:00 a.m., and elimination's begin Sunday Morning.
