Houston - Houston Motorcycle Police Officer Jeff Drumond has been chosen to ride a Team Kawasaki-supported race bike at next weeks AMA/Prostar Gulf Coast Nationals.

Marking their return to Texas after a six year layoff, the 1998 AMA/Prostar Motorcycle Drag Racing series features nearly five hundred motorcycles, racing in side by side competition.

11 categories of competition range from street legal motorcycles to 200+ MPH Funnybikes. Other classes include nitrous-powered Pro Modified's, the "factory hot rod" Pro Stock class, Pro Superbikes, 600cc Super Sports, and several other classes.

Drumond will be competing in the 600 Super Sport category, which includes factory-backed teams from Kawasaki, Suzuki and Honda. He will also be racing in the Street E.T. class, giving all street racers a chance to "beat a cop". "Our goal for this program is to increase public awareness and to street racers and police officers a chance to meet each other, to build relationships, and to get the guys off the street" explained Kawsasaki's John Hoover. "Instead of meeting through tragedy or by getting busted, racers can build relationships and find out how much fun it can be to join organized drag racing."

Drummond will be riding a '97 Kawasaki ZX-6 Ninja, prepared by Kawasaki in a black and white police theme. It is complete with red and blue flashing lights, and is capable of running low ten second elapsed times, at speeds over 120 MPH.

The AMA/Prostar Gulf Coast Nationals will be held at Houston Raceway Park on October 10-11. For more information, please contact HRP at 281-383-2666.
