Race Touareg passes endurance test - visit by Vladimir Putin

Successful endurance test: Volkswagen celebrated a commanding one-two-three exploit at the Silk Way Rally. "Dakar" winner Carlos Sainz (E) together with his co-driver Lucas Cruz (E) was the measure of all things in the new Race Touareg 3. The Spanish duo relegated its team colleagues Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk (Q/D) and Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/ZA) in the predecessor models to positions two and three. The team also had the pleasure of receiving a very special visitor: the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, visited Volkswagen's "Dakar" squad at the bivouac on the seventh leg in the southwest of Russia and obtained first-hand information of the Volkswagen Race Touareg commitment.

Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup
Rene Rast rocks in the plains

The two rounds of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup at Volkswagen's home round at Oschersleben were completely dominated by Rene Rast (Germany). The Volkswagen Junior, who had received the opportunity to run as a guest entrant in the Scirocco from Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen in recognition of his winning the Porsche Supercup, was victorious in both races. On Saturday he won in front of the leader of the standings, Kris Heidorn (Germany) and Maciek Steinhof (Poland). In Sunday's race he relegated Jann-Hendrik Ubben (Germany) and David Brabham, who was the best Legends entrant, to places two and three. In the overall standings Heidorn (296 points) has a 19-point advantage over Ubben before the season's finale at Hockenheim. Directly behind him Maciek Steinhof (276) is lying in wait.

In Sunday's race the new champion was less fortunate and retired. Wittmann underpinned his ambitions for the vice championship: as the runner-up, he managed the leap onto the podium.
