A GREAT FIFTH FINAL RANKING FOR MAN RALLY TEAM INDAKAR 2009
MAN Rally Team Franz Echter took a great 5fth ranking, Kabirov wins Dakar 2009.
In this 14th and final stage, which went from Cordoba back to Buenos Aires, MAN Rally Team Franz Echter came in at a fantastic third position, as the day before, at +00:01:27 behind Kabirov, today's stage winner. Kabirov crossed the finish line at 1:49:56. MAN Rally Team Franz Echter thus maintains its fifth position in the final list of rankings. With today's win, Russian Kabirov also won the Dakar Rally 2009 title.
This final stage took the convoy from Cordoba, via a long and winding route back to the capital, Buenos Aires, where it all started two weeks ago. This 31st Dakar Rally will go down in history as the first rally in South-America, not yielding in any respect for the African rallies. The stage were tough, fast, dusty and hard to negotiate, the sand dunes were higher and steeper than ever before and it demanded a lot from the drivers' and navigators' concentration and stamina. MAN Rally Team Franz Echter put in a very consistent performance throughout the rally and was able to return the MAN truck to the camp. The team couldn't have done it without the support of the rest of the MAN Rally Team.
For MAN Rally Team Hans Stacey, who started this Dakar rally as the titleholder, the rally was dominated by breakdowns right from the beginning, unfortunately. A broken bearing in the drive shaft in the sixth stage ended Stacey's South-American Dakar adventure. The MAN title defender will return to the stage next year to complete his mission.
