Indian CS Santosh and the Indo-French entry Sherco TVS finished the 11km prologue starting the 38th edition of Dakar rally on Saturday.
In the timed 11km special stage, lone Indian rider Santosh riding his Suzuki finished a lowly 127th among the 136 finishers.
Looking to break into the top 20 in his second attempt at Dakar, Santosh tweeted about 'hitting' a small river which costed him time.
Meanwhile, the Sherco TVS Rally team had a better outing with 2014's stage six winner Alain Duclos ending 20th in his TVS RTR 450 machinery.
His teammate and an experienced Dakar campaigner Joan Pedrero Garcia was 25th while Florent Vayssade finished 35th.
The top slot went to Honda's Joan Barreda and Husqvarna's Ruben Faria, both set identical times of 6m27s. The top 48 riders finished within a minute to the leaders.
With the warm-up over, the rally will kick start later today with the first stage stretching over 650km from Rosario to Villa Carlos Paz.
The cars and trucks will be racing on different course to bikes and quads in the opening stage of the 2016 rally.
