Yamaha rider Coue barely survived crash on stage 2

Late news came from Argentina today on Sebastien Coue who crashed on the second stage and was reported not checking in at the bivouac. The Frenchman who races a Yamaha in the Bike category was found unconscious in remote sand dunes with temperatures hovering around 104 degrees in the region.

Coue is listed in critical condition and remains in the intensive care unit at the Teodoro J. Schestakow Hospital in San Rafael, Argentina.

"He entered in critical condition," hospital director Armando Dauverne said. "We don't know how long he was exposed to the sun. Right now he is in intensive care."

The 2012 edition of The Dakar has been hit hard in the opening days with the loss of Argentinean rider Jorge Martinez Boero on the first stage due to a crash on the short 57km special.
