Again Good Result for X-Raid and Al-Attiyah

Today the competitors of the Dakar 2005 had to attend a special stage which announced a lot of challenges. Crossing of broad dunes and difficult navigation as well as a lot of camel grass were the main characteristics of this leg in Mauritania. Rain showers in this area some weeks ago shifted the tracks partially so that they became more hard than normally.

Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah again achieved a good result today. With co-pilot Alain Guehennec he completed the 492 hard and thrilling kilometres of the today's special stage in the 6th fastest time (4h12:02). "It was a quite good day for me. I didn't attack a lot, not wanting to damage the car. The BMW X5 is a very reliable car and the technical preparation by the X-raid team is perfect. I feel really at home in this team because everybody is cordial and capable. I am very happy with the 4th place overall of course, but it is still a long way to Dakar."

In the overall rankings Al-Attiyah moved from 6th up to the fourth place, with a deficit of 4:32min to the new leader, Bruno Saby (VW Touareg). Second X-raid BMW X5-driver José Luis Monterde today came in on 32nd place. In the overall classification the Spaniard climbed from 45th to 31st place.

Pleasure for the X-Raid team: Yesterday the team was awarded by the Dakar organisers with a Fair Play-price as the crew of the X-raid service truck gave help to a crashed truck on the 4th leg.

For tomorrow the first marathon stage is on the Dakar programme. From Zouérat to Tichit the drivers have to cope the climbing of the El Ghallâouîya pass, which is situated between two cliffs. Crossing of plains and dune fields will follow up before the crossing of El Mrayer, the "mirror", a series of small ergs, has to be managed. A lot of camel grass is all along the track and at least the participants need to find a pass which is the only way to arrive at the oasis of Tichit. The vehicles are placed in the Parc Fermé and no service is allowed. So the driver's cleverness is requested to be as careful as needed - to take care of their cars - but also to be as fast as possible.
