All expectations of a typical Dakar-stage were met once again.

All expectations of a typical Dakar-stage were met once again on yesterday’s stage from Zouérat to Tichit. A lot of dunes alternated between bumpy passages and apparently never ending camel grass stretches, and man and machine were intensely strained.

But for all of that two men had a big smile in their faces: X-raid driver Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and his co-driver Alain Guehennec, who gained second place in a stage where a lot of competitors got lost, stuck in the sand or even stranded running dry of fuel. No wonder Nasser Al-Attiyah was happy: “It was a really hard stage yesterday. Often we couldn’t see more than 50-80 metres and crossing the dunes was straining. And at least the camel grass, oh my dear, it seemed not to come to an end. A lot of hard bumps, very twisty driving, switching gears the whole time, slowing down, accellarating again… it was exhausting and I am very, very happy with our second place. Thanks to the team and especially to my co-driver Alain. He is a really cunning fox and has a lot of experience. Without him it would not have been possible to perform like we did.”

Tomorrow the final stage before the rest day is on the agenda and will take the remaining competitors from Tidjikja to Atar. 300 kilometres of track will be fast running and short from the finish, the drivers will reach the mythical Chinguetti erg.
